ADHD Evaluation

Our ADHD Evaluations provide a comprehensive assessment of our client’s functionality across contexts. There is no single test available to diagnose attention deficits conclusively. Therefore, accurate identification requires a comprehensive evaluation to rule out other causes for the behavior, consider normal developmental trends, and to determine if there are other co-occurring conditions.

Attention problems are an area of concern that can cause significant academic, social and emotional challenges for young people and adults.  Often families report being frustrated by their child’s inconsistent behavior and lack of motivation. Sometimes students have a hard time in school, leading to discipline problems or being identified as ‘unmotivated’ or ‘lazy’.

Many families are told their child has an attention deficit by a teacher or school team, based on observational data. While these are good sources of information, we provide a full assessment of processing strengths/weaknesses, emotional status, and behavioral indicators.  We gather data across contexts (home and school) in order to make an accurate diagnosis. As the diagnostic criteria dictate, developmental and educational history are equally as important as the data obtained in direct assessment.

Assessment can help determine if these are legitimate educational issues that need to be accommodated or remediated, and to consider the extent of such challenges.
